THE THREE GRACES: PITCH, VOLUME, SPEED

As in music, the pitch in speaking is that the degree of highness or lowness of sounds, the places on the musical scale of spoken notes. Primarily, the size of the vocal cords determines the voice pitch. Before his cords grow to maturity, a kid pipes his tones high.
